God of Your side

ree

Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel that his fierce wrath may turn away from us (2 Chron. 29:10)

It is one of the beautiful verses from the bible. Here Hezekiah the king announcing to the people to acknowledge that God is anger on them. That angry of God suffered the Judah

Hezekiah took a leading position as the king humbled himself before the Lord and asked the nation of Judah to become humble and asked them to make a covenant with the Lord so that his anger may turn away from them.

Because the anger of God was the reason for the serious consequences faced by the Judah in the form of war, natural calamities, and internal violence etc.

Hence Hezekiah understood that until and unless the anger of God moved away from the Judah.

If we carefully read the verse we can see the three prominent things of God

God likes making covenant with people

God exhibits his anger on his people

God accepts his people

1. God Likes making covenant with his people

The meaning of the word covenant is “agreement”. A covenant is a mutual agreement between 2 or more persons to do or refrain from doing certain acts. Sometimes, this is the undertaking of one of the parties. In the Bible, God is regarded as the witness of this pact (Gen. 31:50, 1Sam. 20:8).

In the Old testament God made several covenants:

Universal/ Noahic covenant:

For the preservation of the people of earth and shall never destroy them wit the flood anymore (Gen. 9:11).

Abrahamic covenant: God would bless Abraham in two ways: (Gen. 12:1-3)

1) God would make him into a great nation and make his name great

2) Through him God would mediate blessing to all the people of earth.

Mosaic covenant: God’s selection of Israel as God's chosen people (Exod. 19:5,6).

Davidic covenant: Messianic salvation promised through David's dynasty (2Sam. 7:12-17).

The new covenant:

Jeremiah 31:31-34

31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. 33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

This new covenant is the everlasting covenant or an agreement between God and human beings. Because of this covenant we are saved and are coheirs of kingdom of God along with Jesus.

As God made the covenant with the people of the world I request the readers to make a covenant with the Lord. Once again im saying covenant is an agreement. Be bold to take a step to make an agreement with God that ye shall not maintain illegal relationships, ye shall not speak against the word of God, ye shall not give false testimony, ye shall pray every day, ye shall read the bible, ye shall respect your spouse, ye shall love God with all your heart. You can make an agreement with God according to the word to become a good and mature Christian. These agreements/covenants will turn God to your side. There are many examples of servants of God who made an agreement with the Lord. Jacob at had made an agreement with God Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God remains with me, if He protects me on this journey that I am making, and gives me bread to eat and clothing to wear, and if I return safe to my father’s house — the Eternal shall be my God. (Gen. 28:20-22)

God was pleased, heard the prayer of Jacob and blessed him in all his works through out his life.

So my dear friends it is always wise to have an agreement with the Lord so that we shall be shown grace and will be blessed.

2.God exhibits his anger on his people

It is a wise father that knows his own child.

William Shakespeare

Our heavenly father knows who we are. A true father who loves his children unconditionally will never forgo their mistakes without warning or punishing. Same wise there are many times Israelites broke the covenant of the Lord and cause him angry. There are many instances he warned them. We can see in there are many instances where he wiped out the people who broke his covenant for example during the time of Noah he wiped out all the people groups of Earth, in the time of Abraham he wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah, at Kibroth Hattavah he wiped out the first Generation of Israelites who were filled with lust and caused anger.

In Hebrews 12: 5-12. (KJV)

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them, which are exercised thereby.

12Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Never miss understand God that he is a furious God who wipes out the nations but subdue yourself and become humble when he rebukes. Any danger cannot come without giving a signal. Likewise he loves us so he rebukes us. We should understand that it is the sign for the coming danger and humble ourselves in God’s presence. Example. Hezekiah.

3. God accepts his people

Our God is a loving God and his love is unfailing. He forgives all our sins and inequities. A true father will forgive the mistakes whoever accept the mistake and agree that he/she did a mistake. From the above verse Hezekiah is asking the people of Judah to accept and agree that they are against the will of God.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Confession should be from our part to gain access to the Love of Christ. In some instances there are people who are turning against the word of God and will of God, to them also it is applicable, even they also can avail the acceptance of God by coming back into the hands of God. The best example is the Lost son. He understood his mistake and came back to his father.

So my dear friends never think that our God will never accept the sinners. You are still provided by grace. But that Grace should not become license for your sin. Make sure that you always follow the word of God and live according to the word of God and live in peace with yourself, God and your neighbors and others.

God bless you
